    Quinn DelHoyo

I grew up in Oakton, Virginia. After high school I left home and served a two year mission for my church in Utah. After finishing my service in 2002, I attended Utah Valley State College. While in school, I also worked as a football coach for a local high school for the next three years. I loved coaching but when it really came down to a career, I had to do what I loved most.

I have always played video games since I was four years old. I constantly practiced to be the best at every game. I was always analyzing and studying every game I played. At 11 years old I competed in the Star Fox: Super Weekend Tournament and lost by just 15 points. Needless to say, I cried myself to sleep that night because I was so close to owning my very own Fox McCloud bomber jacket.

I started my level design hobby by drawing stick figures battling it out across 8 1/2 x 11 notebook paper. I then graduated to making custom quests for the board game Hero Quest and then to making maps for Star Craft. Finally, I decided to pursue level design professionally. I attended The Guildhall at SMU starting in 2007. After graduation, I began working at 3D Realms on what was one of the most highly anticipated games of all time–Duke Nukem Forever.

I have two strengths that dictate my design process and define who I am as a designer. First, I have a burning desire to create tactically rich multiplayer levels that provide thousands of hours of durable gameplay as well as engaging single player environments that are memorable. Second, I have a design oriented drive to achieve strong content that people want to interact with.

As a result, these two strengths have helped me to never lose sight of the fact that I am designing for the player. Because the player’s enjoyment is, above all, my primary goal.
